Rachael Messiter, Dip.dog.psy
For 12 years Rachael Messiter has dedicated her personal and professional life to dogs and their owners. The interest was always there however, the professional path began when she rescued a dog from a miserable existence in Greece. Given the nature of life up to this point, he was undeniably frustrated, confused and frightened and Rachael turned to world renowned Jan Fennell’s book “The Dog Listener” for help. This experience changed both lives and Rachael quickly realised where this would take her.
Immersing herself in the world of human-canine relationships, Rachael has devoted countless hours volunteering for canine charities. In 2000 she became affiliated with Friends of the Strays of Greece when she rescued her first dog. This spurred her committed volunteerism for the charity and to personally remove dozens of mistreated dogs from Greece. After several years of volunteering for this charity, Rachael set out to America to spend two years volunteering for Mission Wolf where she lived and cared for the wolves at the sanctuary. She not only gained an understanding of the behavioural effects the environment and inappropriate relationships have on dogs, she also gained extensive veterinary nurse experience. She still spends considerable time volunteering for charities and has done everything from skydiving to walking over hot coals for these causes.
After being so inspired by Jan Fennell’s methods, in 2003 Rachael began training with her to become a certified Dog Listener and achieved this title in 2004. Due to such diligence and dedication to her training, volunteerism and teaching the nuisances of Amichen™ Bonding to hundreds of dog owners, in 2011 Rachael earned the impressive status of Highly Recommended Associate of Jan Fennell International Dog Listeners Ltd. To add to this esteemed title and her proven expertise, she has recently completed a certification program in dog psychology.
